Skin Care Services

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer or melanoma is the most common type of breast cancer. There are more new cases of skin cancer in the United States each year than the combined incidence of breast, prostate, lung, and colon cancer. Approximately 20 percent of all Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime.

At Walnut Creek Family Practice, we offer skin cancer screenings and skin cancer services to our patients with our highly qualified specialists.

Risk Factors

People of any race or ethnicity can get skin cancer. Sun exposure and sunburns are the most preventable risk factors for all skin cancers, including melanoma. You can be at risk from:

  • Family history of skin cancer
  • Weakened immune system
  • Scarring caused by a disease or burn
  • Exposure to cancer-causing compounds such as arsenic
  • Using indoor tanning devices such as tanning beds and sunlamps

The earlier you get screened for cancer, or go to the dermatologist to get checked out, the better off you are, and the lower you are at risk of getting cancer and avoiding it from spreading. Don’t wait until it’s too late – get screened today!

As skin cancer is very treatable when caught early, our practice highly recommends an annual preventive skin exam with a qualified dermatologist. Performing skin self-exams on a regular basis is the single most important thing you can do to catch skin cancers in their earliest stages.

If you notice anything changing or growing, get it checked out immediately. Contact Walnut Creek Family Practice for an appointment with one of our dermatologists, and they will examine your areas of concern, make a diagnosis, and recommend the best treatment options.
